Where To Celebrate Oktoberfest in New Orleans
Back in 1810 Bavaria, who would have thought that a public celebration of a crown prince marrying a princess would become one of the most famous parties in the world? Oktoberfest is a 16 day festival based in Munich, Germany, but celebrated all over the world. But here we are.
To no one's surprise, a multi-day celebration based on beer and food is quite popular in New Orleans, helped in no small part by the significant German subculture brought by the many immigrants who moved here in the 19th and 20th centuries.
Technically, this year's Oktoberfest ended on October 3, but since the name of the event itself has "Oktober" in it, many places celebrate all October long. And why not? More beer and schnitzel for all.
Ralph's on the Park chef Chip Flanagan recently went to Germany and has brought what he learned back for Oktoberfest. Served now between October 29, the menu includes dishes like spaezle, beer and cheese soup, schnitzel holstein, and gingerbread trifle.
